Across the week we’ll cover the Ypres Salient, the “Forgotten Front” around Fromelles and Loos, the Somme, Arras, Vimy Ridge, and the dramatic final battles of 1918. Expect great company, expert context, human stories, and time to reflect at some of the most moving memorial landscapes in Europe.

4th Day: The Long Day of the Somme

Our focus on Day four is exclusively on the 1916 Battle of the Somme.

Highlights include the Sunken Lane at Beaumont-Hamel, nearby Newfoundland Memorial Park and its preserved trenches, the Ulster Tower, Lochnagar Crater, Delville Wood, and time at the unmissable Thiepval Memorial.

Accommodation: Arras

5th Day: Tunnels, Ridges, and Remembrance

Our morning is spent with free time exploring the beautiful town of Arras and the many historic sites it has to offer, before heading underground in the famous Wellington Quarries tunnel system, used with great effect in the 1917 battle.

Our afternoon visits are to the bitterly fought-over Lorette Spur, the French cemetery at Notre Dame de Lorette to discuss Poilu fighting in the area, and finally, the incredible preserved trenches, tunnel system and memorial to Canadian troops at Vimy Ridge.

Accommodation: Arras

6th Day: Breaking the Hindenburg Line

Our final morning on the battlefields is well spent with a visit to the old frontlines of the German Spring Offensive in 1918, before following the westwards retreat to the outskirts of Amiens and the small town of Villers-Bretonneux where British and Australian troops, with their ‘backs to the wall’, held the German Army at bay.

Our final stop is Riqueval Bridge along the St Quentin Canal where Allied troops finally smashed the vaunted Hindenburg Line in an assault that only ended on the morning of 11th November 1918.

We then return to the UK to finish the tour.

When is the tour, and where does it start and end?

The tour starts on the morning of Tuesday 2nd June 2026 and ends on the evening of Sunday 7th June 2026. It starts and ends at Ebbsfleet International Train Station, just 20 minutes from central London by train. Secure car parking is available at Ebbsfleet for the duration of the tour.

Can I join from Europe or overseas?

Yes. Many guests travel from mainland Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and beyond. The easiest option is to arrange your travel to London and meet the group at Ebbsfleet on Day 1.
If you’re arriving independently, we recommend building in a little extra time the day before in case of travel delays.

Can I join the tour in Ypres instead?

Possibly, yes. If meeting at Ebbsfleet is difficult, you may be able to join the group in Ypres on Day 1. This will be subject to timing and logistics. Please contact us in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Is this suitable for partners or non-specialists? (Your partner’s idea?)

Absolutely. Many guests join as couples with different levels of knowledge. The tour is friendly, well-paced, and full of human stories, with free time built in and no obligation to visit every site on every day — so you can dip in and out and still have a brilliant week.

I have a relative who served!

— can we include something related to them?
Yes! We love to do that. Let us know a little detail and we’ll see what we can do.
