Nourishing the lush vineyards of northeastern France is a soil storied and shattered by some of the 20th century’s most significant battles. Join Clive Harris and James Taub in exploring the forests and hallowed ground of the St Mihiel Salient. It was here that Doughboys of the American Expeditionary Forces found themselves in September 1918, pitted against determined and highly skilled German forces with plenty of hard won experience of fighting on the Western Front. In the first major offensive led by US troops in the Great War, many stories of courage and sacrifice emerged, and for the men who fought here a century ago, the name St Mihiel would never be forgotten.
