By mid July 1944 the fighting for Normandy was still raging and the city of Caen, originally a D-Day objective, remained partially in German hands as did the dominant Bourgebus Ridge beyond. Finally with a healthy manpower and supply advantage and a massive numerical superiority in armour, the allies resolved to drive the Germans from Caen once and for all and to capture the ridge defending the road to Falaise.

Operation Goodwood as it became known, would see two armoured spearheads consisting of more than 1000 tanks advance under cover of heavy aerial bombardment and smash deep into the ever stretched German defences and drive hard along good ‘tank country’ in an attempt to finally capture those illusive objectives.

This tour, led by Professor John Buckley and Dan Hill follows that epic battle and examines the actions from both the allied and German perspective using incredible archive footage, veteran accounts and some of the very latest technology to understand the battle like never before.
