US Navy Admiral “Bull” Halsey famously wrote: ‘Before Guadalcanal, the enemy advanced at his pleasure. After Guadalcanal, he retreated at ours.’

On 7 August 1942, thousands of US Marines stormed ashore on Japanese controlled Guadalcanal as part of the first Allied offensive of the Pacific War, setting into motion the savage six-month long struggle for the island. Key to that fighting was Bloody Ridge, also known as Edson’s Ridge, and arguably the most significant piece of ground associated with the entire Pacific War. The ridge held a commanding view of the Island’s vital airfield; whoever controlled the airfield, controlled Guadalcanal. Over the course of several months, American soldiers and marines fought bitterly for control of the ridge in two iconic battles which this Virtual Tour will explore through use of the latest technology and the words of those who were there.

The tour was not bad. It lacked clarity and definition of the battle areas. Although informative it lacked in specific detail. The narrator was poorly prepared and his rendition disjointed.
As a narrator his voice was grating and delivery hesitant. He could learn from listening to Dan Carlin
The overall depiction of the battle of Guadalcanal to me was incomplete and left many gaps

Outstanding tour and accompanying narration. As an amateur military historian and former member of America’s Armed Forces and Vietnam Veteran, one of the battles I was quite familiar with was Guadalcanal. However even I learned additional intricacies I never knew, and the use of Drone technology added to the tour and gives a perspective any subscriber would welcome. I would strongly suggest that anyone interested in the Pacific Theatre of WWII watch this tour. A job well done!

Excellent tour about a battle I knew little about, presented in a lucid, descriptive, detailed and compelling manner. Some excellent references and combination of ‘now and then’ photographs with some helpful drone footage. Clear and concise explanation of how the Japanese got to Guadalcanal and why the allies struck back at them there.
My only gripe would be the presence of so many graphics on the map making it at times confusing and difficult to make out the line of the ridge, but I’ll still give it five stars as the tour was so enthralling.
