Description
By June 1918 the tide of the First World War was turning. Germany’s last great gamble to knock out the allies that spring was failing and all along the line allied resistance was hardening.
One of the last major attacks to be launched fell on positions occupied by relatively experienced US Army and Marine units alongside their French allies around a little-known area close to the Marne river – Belleau Wood. Over the course of three weeks an incredibly bitter fight raged which saw huge casualties on both sides as well as remarkable acts of personal gallantry.
